For Trainers and Owners of Reactive Dogs

Based on the book, “Scaredy Dog!” this full-day seminar addresses the concept of Reactivity and teaches trainers and dog-training clubs how to run classes for reactive dogs. The seminar is also wonderfully informative and supportive for owners of reactive dogs.

So…your dog lunges, salivates, growls, and barks at strangers, bikes or other dogs? Not sure how to handle this?

Or perhaps you’re a trainer and have come upon such a dog in your classes. What to do?

How do I run a class for reactive dogs?

If you have questions (or dogs) like this, then this seminar is for you!

Seminars typically take place on Saturdays, with Sundays available for private consultations for people who attended the seminar and the option for qualified trainers to observe these consultations.

Typical outline for the seminar is as follows:

9:00 -10:30 AM Define Reactivity
Discuss stress hormones, genetics, socialization, etc

10:45-12:15 Teach skills necessary for participation in a reactive dog class — why use a clicker, targeting, focus, car behavior, tricks. Describe class structure. Show DVD containing footage of actual classes.

1:15-2:00 Reactive class, session 1

2:15-3:00 Reactive class, session 2

3:15-4:30 Discuss class structure

Seminars can also be scheduled on Sundays. Or make this a full-weekend opportunity by running reactive classes or provate consultations for a full second day.

One Day Seminar fee: $1000 plus travel and expenses. Fees for Private Consultations or Reactive Classes are in addition to the seminar fees.

Attendance is limited only by the size of the room; there will be a limit of 5 attending dogs. I MUST screen these dogs prior to being accepted as working dogs for the seminar.

Review of the Scaredy Dog! Seminar

The Scaredy Dog Seminar was a smashing success! We had wonderful attendance and lots of interest from local trainers and pet owners, and animal rescuers/shelter volunteers. Ali did a wonderful job of providing information that was basic enough for casual pet owners looking to help rehab their own dogs as well as keeping it professional and advanced enough for professional trainers to find great benefit. The combination of classroom time and hands-on demo time was perfect. I wish we could have Ali back all the time for regular seminars!
